The Widow's Offering

^41 (A)And he sat down opposite ^(B)the treasury and watched the people ^(C)putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. ⁴² And a poor widow came and put in two ^(D)small copper coins, which make a penny.^{[a] 43} And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, ^(E)this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. ⁴⁴ For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her ^(F)poverty has put in everything she had, all ^(G)she had to live on.”

The Parable of the Rich Fool

^13 (A)Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” ¹⁴ But he said to him, ^(B)“Man, ^(C)who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” ¹⁵ And he said to them, ^(D)“Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

²³ But he turned and said to Peter, ^(A)“Get behind me, Satan! You are ^(B)a hindrance^[a] to me. For you ^(C)are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

The King of Glory

A Psalm of David.

¹⁹ Or ^(A)do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? ^(B)You are not your own, ^20 (C)for you were bought with a price. ^(D)So glorify God in your body.

⁶ But ^(A)godliness ^(B)with contentment is great gain, ⁷ for ^(C)we brought nothing into the world, and^[a] we cannot take anything out of the world. ⁸ But ^(D)if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.

^23 (A)“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ^(B)you tithe mint and dill and ^(C)cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: ^(D)justice and mercy and faithfulness. ^(E)These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.

¹³ By their approval of this service, ^(A)they^[a] will glorify God because of your submission that comes from your ^(B)confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, ¹⁴ while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you.
